Lotte World — how busy the area is

Not connected yet. When it is, this page will tell you whether the streets, the lake path and the station around Lotte World are quiet or packed before you set off.

This is about the area, not the park

The figures will come from the City of Seoul's live city data, which estimates how many people are in the Jamsil Lotte Tower and Seokchon Lake district — the neighbourhood around the park, including the mall, the lake path and the subway station.

It is not a count of people inside Lotte World, and not a number of tickets sold. A crowded district can mean a quiet park, and a quiet district does not promise a short queue. We looked for an official source that publishes park attendance or ride waiting times and did not find one, so this page will not claim to show either.

What you'll see here

Four things, each of which will say plainly where it came from.

  • How busy it is right now

Seoul's own level, not our threshold

The city publishes a crowding level for the district, from relaxed through to crowded. We will show the level it publishes rather than inventing a cut-off of our own, so the word you read here means the same thing it means everywhere else the city reports it.

  • Roughly how many people are in the area

An estimate for the district, not a headcount

A range rather than a single number, because that is what the source provides: an estimate worked out from mobile-network activity, refreshed every few minutes. It can differ from any actual count, and it covers the whole district — see the note above.

  • The next twelve hours

Seoul's forecast, labelled as a forecast

The city publishes its own short-term projection. We will pass it through as a forecast and keep it visibly apart from what was actually observed. A prediction stored or drawn as an observation is how a record quietly becomes fiction.

    No data yet

  • How it has looked over time

Only from the day we start recording

The live feed has no archive: it answers what is happening now, and nothing about last month. So any chart here can only begin on the day we begin keeping observations, and it will say so. We will not back-fill the days before that with anything.

Why it's empty

The city's data service needs a key — one for the service itself, not one per place — and we don't have one yet. Until we do, there is nothing here to show, and a guess dressed up as a reading would be worse than an empty page: you would have no way to tell which of the two you were looking at.
